I believe everyone is entitled to their own sexual choices. And I also believe that respect is in order as well as acceptance. I mean, these days we are bombarded with gay advertisements and public displays of affection and the works. Why can't people just get along with each other?

It's exactly the same problem with religion and others like Atheists, Wiccan, Pagan etc. etc. etc.

We can't all love or like exactly the same things in life. Everyone is different. I say: Interact, Respect, live and let live.

I'm so sick and tired of this crap. That's why I hate people in general. I prefer animals, especially dogs. They will love you no matter what.

I posted a tweet yesterday asking aloud "What if this footage had leaked within 24hours?"

That would have changed the course of the next day's events, no doubt whatsoever. As it stands the speedy press release from Police re: bottle throwing etc quelled what would likely have been overwhelming public sympathy for protesters even if there hadn't been a fatality.

What happens next is crucial.

This is very true, however I think the Kinsey scale is often misappropriated and in its own way can incarcerate us within the sexologist's need to mathematize everything. Even though it is by definition a non-binary scale it only offers places in 0-6, what if I was to consider myself 7, or 3.5? Really it's just an example of the discourse around this needing to change before people's minds do.

I totally agree that you can be completely sexually inexperienced and still have a definite understanding of your sexual preference, not many people actually think this. This too is something that queer as well as straight communities are often implicated in - I can't count how many times I've noted someone being derisive to a young person, assuming their sexual identity is capricious or ill-formed just because of their age or experience levels.

You know, not every scientist has been locked into a binary mode of thinking. Dr. Alfred Kinsey defined sexuality as being a spectrum, not a switch.

Also, I like your point about the difference between bisexual behavior and identification. I know some straight people who've done homosexual things, but would never consider themselves bisexual. Therefore, they are not queer.

Likewise, it's possible to be a complete virgin and consider yourself bisexual. Self identification really is very important.

Thanks for the recommendations. I knew I should have watched Go Fish already and this has forced me to purchase it - I am excitedly waiting for it's arrival. Preaching to the Perverted is a new one to me and I shall look it up. Much appreciated

I love those images. So very Paul Cadmas with some O'Keefee.
Queer is both liberating and problematic. As you note in another post, queer had a run in the 90s: Queer Nation, Queer cinema, hopefully, it can come back modified and stronger in the 10s.

Thanks for putting this so very nicely S. The only thing I would like to comment is on the subject of the action which, obviously on purpose, stays a bit vague in your post. I mean the object of the action of exclusion or of denying an actual identity for bi. It is quite usually radical lesbians, especially those who became lesbians strategically, ie. not out of desire but as a political act, in order not to sleep with the enemy etc. I was just reading the other day how this 70s trend actually was visible in groups such as 'Lesbians who sleep with Politically Correct Men' which, even though I find witty, denies bisexuality of its autonomy and defines the bisexual woman as Lesbian first.

The most irritating thing for me is when I have partonizing lesbians who refer to bisexual people as 'closeted' homosexuals.

But I wouldn't doubt of the productivity of 'queer', only when it becomes too overused as a fashionable way of having a subversive night out maybe...so welcome to the queer-coming-out -blogworld!
